PINK OYSTER GROW BAG
How to Fruit Your Pink Oyster Grow Bag
Your grow bag is fully colonized and ready to produce fresh mushrooms. Follow the instructions below to give your mushrooms the humidity, fresh air, light, and care they need to fruit successfully.
Before
You Start
WASH YOUR HANDS
Clean hands and a clean space help prevent contamination.
ROOM TEMP
60–75°F (16-24°C) is ideal for most mushrooms.
FRESH AIR
Good airflow is essential. Avoid stale, stuffy conditions.
INDIRECT LIGHT
Bright, indirect light helps trigger and support fruiting.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Start Your Bag
With clean scissors, cut a long line or "X" figure on one side of the mushroom bag where you want the mushrooms to grow. Do not completely remove the plastic from the colonized block. Do not cut deeply into the mushroom block.
Place It in the Right Spot
Place your bag in a spot with indirect light, consistent temperatures (70-80°F), and plenty of fresh air. Avoid direct sunlight and consistent strong drafts.
Keep It Humid
Mist the exposed area and sides of the bags at least 3-4 times per day. The surface should look like tiny water droplets/moist substrate, not running water. Good humidity is key for healthy growth. You can apply a covering such as a greenhouse or even an upside-down plastic storage bin (with holes cut for air flow exchange) to better maintain high humidity without creating "stale air". Make sure the mushrooms still get plenty of fresh air. A ceiling fan on medium-high is usually effective. Research "Martha Tents" for great DIY grow set ups.
Watch It Grow
In 3-5 days, you should see small pink pins. These pins will further develop and begin protruding out of the area you cut.
Know When to Harvest
Harvest when the mushroom caps are fully formed, but before the caps begin to turn upwards. Pink Oyster typically finishes in 2-4 days once pins develop. Mushrooms will drop spores (and make a mess of your counter or grow space) if they are left on the block for too long. Pink Oyster mushrooms can have natural seafood smell as they mature.
Too Early
Not fully developed
Ready to Harvest
Caps flat and good color
Too Late
Caps curled upwards and pale
Harvest Your Pink Oyster
Use a clean knife or scissors to cut at the base of the mushroom cluster. You can also grab (with clean hands) the mushroom near the base and twist/pull it off.
Try for Another Flush
After harvesting, cut a new line or "X" on the fruiting bag and continue misting the exposed areas. Most mushroom blocks will fruit 2-3 times.
